Mines did not come with keyless too. I chose not to go with that option.

i second that. mines never came with a remote either but i'm sure my car did have the security system since my insurance company told me i had one when i got a quote.

Hertz just simply never gave me the remotes; or they just lost it.

Dude, you've been lucky! I always treat rentals like CRAP! I shift into gear without the brakes, super rev the engine and drive in a lower gear for a long period of time, pull e-brakes, and park anywhere... among other mis-treatments.

My alarm module was located in the center console, to the rear back where the back seat cup holder is. Do you have a small pannel below your ashtray that has a red light on it, says Toyota on it? I know there was a few alarms on the Solara, I forget what the one I have is called, or if they are all located in the same spot.

I bought an OEM Toyota alarm kit for the solara platform back in like 2001ish and installed it personally by myself with the help of a friend's tool kit that provided all the right tools to get all the stuff apart. the only issue was. I was scared like to hell to pull off the panels thinking that i might break the snap-on hinges. Its a big issue though. It pretty much took me about 1 1/2days to fully install the kit but it was worth it as I now truely had security system installed besides the keyless remote. Only issue though. Don't use the keyless remote with the security system. It'll set the alarm off  Other issues though. I think the 12v for like cdplayer power adpater/cellphones broke somehow but I've been lazy to fix it for the past 2yrs. Won't be changing the stock audio system as it came with the special 8speaker JBL package on my I4 2000 solara. Has damn good bass for stock with the right kind of music. It thumps like crazy with my Animatrix soundtrack cd

But to stay on track. I can find the info again if you're willing to wait until the weekend so I can hunt down the security system papers that I got it for and the model name or else just call up the Toyota dealer and ask the model names. There were 2 systems for our solaras but the upper side one supports for the like the Camry only for the keyless open trunk feature i think??

I haven't tested the noise sensative which supposedly activates the alarm but I tried thumping on the glass to see if the alarm would sound. No affect. I even set the sensitvity to max. Tried asking the dealer how senstive must system be to actually to get it to work. "An actually break in" .... great..... lol

But yea. I still don't mind it. It'll directly link to your ECU and engine and other computer components and theoritically, kill the engine until the alarm is reseted by the remote.

Can someone take a pic of the stock alarm location? In my car I've found 2 plugs under the center console and i'm confused what was supposed to be there. Tanks,
