TIP: get a multimeter, or borrow one from Autozone or Checkers.

youre gunna have a remote starter thing on your 5 speed? what do you have to do to your clutch? correct me if im wrong, but wouldnt you have to make it so that you dont have to put the pedal down to start the car? and also wouldnt that mean you wont be able to leave the car in gear? im getting an alarm soon too.. so i was wondering about this stuff..

I have the same alarm he's getting on my 5 speed. You do not have to press the clutch to start the car and you can leave the car in gear, the remote start just doesn't work if the car is in gear. The remote start just bypasses the clutch, you don't have to actually do anything to it.

i'm purdy sure there is a wire on the clutch that grounds when the pedal is pressed down. there's a wire on the alarm that will send it ground when the remote starter is about to crank.

That sounds like a great failsafe system. So if the car is in neutral, it can remote start, if in gear, it won't remote start. I like this! I never park in gear, unless on a rather steep incline. I'm confused as to how the brain know that the car is in gear AND bypasses the clutch safety feature that is on ALL MT vehicles since 1994(?). Did you install this yourself?

When you remove the keys from the ignition you have to have your foot off of the brake and the clutch, otherwise the car does not engage the "Reservation Mode" that is the safety for the remote start. Once you remove the key the car does not actually turn off, it stays running for up to 2 minutes (which I believe is a setting you can change). Once you close the doors the car shuts off and the alarm arms putting itself into reservation mode. Unless the alarm is in reservation mode the car will not start remotely. I've had this alarm on my car for almost 2 years now and have not had any problems with it. The range is OUTSTANDING on the 2 way pager, I believe the official range is 1.25 miles. I can remote start my car in the middle of a parking garage while I'm in a building 2 blocks away.

Having never installed an alarm before I didn't want to do it on my own so I got a friend to help me out. I would feel comfortable doing it myself if I had to again, though. As far as the clutch bypass I believe it's just a wire from the brain that you splice into the clutch wire... but it has been a while.

on the alarm there's a neutral safety wire that has to be grounded in order for the remote start to work. all remote start systems come with it. if you've got the correct wire, when you meter it it shows ground in neutral and voltage in any other gear.

Then why won't any shops install a remote start on a manual transmission? I realize there would be a risk if it was left in gear, but if there is a wire that will tell you if the car is in gear or not it's really no different than an automatic transmission.

liability. simple. some of these products even state clearly that it is NOT to be installed on a manual transmission vehicle.
