idling RPM question

Hi, I haven't posted in a while, but now I have a mechanical question.

Upon startup, my Solara idles anywhere from 1500 to just below 2000. If I then shift into reverse or drive, it drops down.

It's always idled high, but it really struck me this morning when it idled persistently at 2000 on startup.

This is bad, right? Is it VERY bad? Any thoughts?

It's not bad
The idle speed should be around 1500 when the car is cold.

IF (and you should) let your car warm up (temperature gauge is about half way up) the idle should drop to around 750.

The idle is high because the car is warming up and letting the thermostat temp. rise before it opens and begins to cool the engine. The oxygen sensors are also disabled until the car is warmed up to operating temperature, so you might also feel a little lack or gain or power (due to unadjusted "default" amounts of fuel being squirted in)

So don't worry about it... that's how cars are :D
