Stock alarm and remote problems

Stock alarm and remote problems

Postby Qetesh » Mon Nov 08, 2004 7:45 am

Last night I'm getting in to my car. I had a bunch of stuff in my hands so I was fumbling with the remote to disarm the alarm and open the doors. I must have pushed both buttons on the remote at the same time because when I opened the door the alarm activated. Lights flashing, horn blaring, neighbors coming to the door. I dropped my stuff and tried to turn it off.

I put the key in the ignition and turned it to the "on" position, but that didn't work. I tried pushing the top button on the remote, that didn't work. By now, my neighbors want to kill me and my husband is screaming at me because he's all hungover.

So I get out, close the door, put the key in the lock, that doesn't work either. Finally, I got back in the car, closed the door and put the key in the ignition and finally the alarm stops. Sweet silence.

On the bright side, I know my alarm works. Toyota didn't skimp on the stock system, that's for sure.

Now my problem is, the remote doesn't seem to work. I tried to arm the system when I got to my desitnation and nothing. So, I manually had to lock the car.

When I got home I used the other remote and that worked to arm the system.

So, I'm wondering, what could the problem be with the remote that's not working since the alarm was engaged and how can I reset it?

It could be that the battery is going dead.

If you have any clue what alarm system you have that would help a lot. Was the horn beeping or was it a separate siren that was ringing.

Also it probally shut off because all alarms have cycles, usually a 60 second siren then reset
