Brakes actin' up

Brakes actin' up

Postby SleeperSolara » Mon Nov 22, 2004 9:05 am

When i brake to slow down from 40mph; my car doesn't stop smoothly.
When i brake it feels like it grips then slips then grips then slips, until it stop.
It feels like is jutters straight.
I got new brake pads for my car.
Could it be my rotors??
What you guys think.

It could be your rotors. Check it for debris or warping.

I always resurface my rotors when i replace pads. Its cheaper in the long run! Call around to see who resurfaces your rotors...someone told me it costed 12 dollars at pepboys PER rotor to resurface, but i've never confirmed this..

^^ what they said.. try to get your rotors checked or have them resurfaced... or better yet.. there is a GB for Brembo slotted or drilled rotors for sale in the for sale section.

Worth the change.

It could be that.
The brake rotors looked really old to me.
Also when i got the car; the brake rotors in the rear [ I have disc brakesin the rear ], are rusted on the area between the rotor, and the wheel.

^Don't worry too much about the rear rotors (the rust is normal). They are likely not the problem. Just have the front rotors resurfaced (turned). I get mine done at NAPA for $16 a pair. And of course, inspect your front pads while you have it apart to see if they need replacing...

Is that a diy price, meaning you take the rotors physically (in your hand and hand it over to them) or is that price for one taking in the car. I ask cus i know in 6K miles i'll be at 60K miles and i want my rotors resurfaced?

rule of thumb is that you should always get your rotors re-surfaced with new brake pads.

after time, brake pads create small grooves on the rotor surface due to friction when you brake. when you just pop on new pads with out re-surfacing the rotor, the rotor will carve those grooves into the brake pad, killing your brake pad life. hence why you dont have that great of stopping power as you should.

I have new pads in the front.
The front pads are cermaic and rear one are the cheap kind from AutoZone.
I couldn't find any cermiac pads for the rear, cause the little notchs on each pad for the rear was too big.
Might as well get new rotors.
Slotted, or drilled/slotted, or drilled.
Not sure about rotors yet.
