Ok here the thing that is happenin'.

Today in OKC it is rainin' pretty good here.
And I'm on my way to school; from NW OKC to MWC [MidWest City, it another little town in OKC].
I'm on the main street I go to school on.
I'm headin' east and on the way to a stoplight I hit some deep puddles [ the kind where if you go through it it slows you down]
So I hit some puddles; but tryin' to avoid them but can't cause of a snacks truck is next to me; I was tryin' to pass him.
Well i hit puddles left and right of my car, before the light.
Then when I stopped at the light; steam or smok started comin' out of my hood. :o :o
So I started freakin' out....... Then I finally calmed down and the smoke was gone after 2 mins.
Then iI finally got to a gas station wit a cover over the place to stopped there to check my car.
Well nothin was wrong, the only thing was that the alternor belt or one of the many belts on the left side was squeakin'.
Then I started the enigne and turned on the heater on low wit the temp settin' at about level [where the control is striaght lateral].
Then a funky smell came out of the vent; this his never happened before when i hit some puddles.

First: I thought is could've been the brake hittin' the water and causein' steam, but then i thought "it couldn't be that cause the brakes dont cause that much heat to give off steam"

Second: I thought the water could've splashed hard enough from under the car to the rear headers and cuase steam; cause those can get hot enough to cause steam/smoke when water hits is.

What you guys think it is??
I haven't ran the car hard at all since about 1 month ago when i did a high speed run wit a friend.
2000 Solara SE auto V6. Diamond White Pearl.
Top Speed Run finished at 130 mph. :o
Too many modifcations for the signature.

i think its the headers but the puddle had to be pretty deep or splashed pretty hard cuz of the skid plate and the bottom pieces should of blocked the water from hitting the headers...

In houston, this is like a 6monthly event! Everytime you pass a level of water where you think/feel that your brakes are submerged (or almost half wheel covered underwater)...DO NOT USE THE BRAKES (if possible) just don't accelerate as much and if your m/t use engine braking.

As far as steam coming from the underside, its bound to happen, its gets warm and hot under your car.with water that hot metal meets water and steam is formed..its NORMAL. (ever notice that you car sometimes steams when you come out of a carwash, same effect; or when you clean yoru engine bay and then start the car..same effect).

As far as your alternator squeeking, i think thats not related to this..sholdn't be...or my questions should be "how much submerged was the car that you think water affected the alternator"

PS: for those ever wanting to pass deep water (not that i suggest you do, but if your in a situation where you need to), drive in "2" or "L"....this way, you keep the reves up there and still have low speeds to diminish any water effects on your engine...
