light out indicator stays on.......

light out indicator stays on.......

Postby pythonjosh » Mon Jan 03, 2005 10:05 pm

I recently had a prob with my running lights in the rear. So I replaced a fuse, and ran a new wire for the running lights. Now all the lights I can see are functioning properly and the light out indicator stays on. Do I have to reset the ecu? Can I do that by just pulling the fuse? I just hate having to redo my radio presets.
Thanks,
Josh

normally, if you had a bunt out bulb or a burnt out fillament bulb, the indicator comes on. When you replace it, it should have gone away (when you first put your keys in the accessory position "ACC" all your lights do a check..if replaced properly, that light should go away). You don't have to reset your ecu for that light to go away (after replacing bulbs/fuses). You mentioned you re-wired something...this makes me assume that triggered the "lights out" indicator in the gauges.

If you are using LED's for the Tail lights than that would also cause it.

All the bulbs are stock. No led's, or painted bulbs, although I did plug in one of those led bulbs (3157). That's when it happened. So I put the bulb back in and everything works. And I found out the indicator light only comes on when the car is running, AND when the running lights are on. If the running lights aren't on, neither is the light out indicator. All exterior lights work, I'm confused.

Its only one bulb in the back of the cluster just take the holder out its going to be one of the small bottom ones, and the DRL you can disconect them by unpluging a grey-black plug in the engine bay passengers side against the Firewall. If you need more help E-mail me at=> roly123@dslextreme.com. I can probably get you some pics.

So if i'm reading this right, when you replaced one bulb with an LED one, thats when it flickered this problem. LED bulbs give away low wattage our cars can't detect if its a burnt out bulb or what? so when you placed the reg bulb back the problem still persists?

Exactly dude. Now the indicator just turns on a couple seconds after starting the car. I dunno.
Other guys: I unplugged both the drl and the night time sensor well over a year ago. What I'm talking about is not in any way associated with it.

That doesn't solve the problem. Just hides it.

Try disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes, it might reset it!

Try replacing the bulbs that are dual fillaments (like one used for running lights also as brake lights). Try replacing BOTH and then see if the problem persists. Removing gauge bulb is ghetto, it just hides the problem. (unless your using LED's).
