Installing a car starter does not viod the warranty as long as you dont cut the factory wires. If you tap into them you are OK. I agree with Flip on the SAFC

S.E.M.A stands for Specialty Equipment Market Association and they represent the $26 billion specialty automotive industry. The trade association has approximately 4,500 member companies. It is the authoritative source of research data, trends and market growth information for automakers and the specialty auto products industry. Today, the nearly 40-year-old organization performs many services for its members and for the hobby as a whole. Perhaps most importantly, SEMA works hard to protect consumers' rights to drive accessorized, customized and vintage vehicles. SEMA keeps close tabs on legislators in Washington, DC, and also in each state within the U.S., so SEMA members and anyone who loves cars and trucks can protest pending legislation that might harm our hobby, as well as endorse legislation that's good for car lovers. SEMA also has helped numerous consumers interact with car dealers, who sometimes try to get away with charging for repairs on a modified vehicle by claiming (wrongly) that specialty accessories have voided its warranty.

right off their website. :)

I think you have some serious research to do first about the Magnusson-Moss Act before even mentioning it.

noooooooooooooo, i will bring in on monday one of our sheets, and scan it for you guys. we have to know what voids and what doesnt. for example, if you have a cheap remote starter and for what ever reason it kills your starter, then the dealer isnt responsible for the starter and can charge you ONLY if then can show and prove what it did or how it wired up is causing and only after. of if you have a problem with your car and just because there is one in there they cant void your warranty. I've worked on both sides on this issue. Thats why i left the dealers, for the fact that they are just lying scumbags and try everything to rip people off. In some cases can it affect it? Yes of course........... if you have a chevy with a classII DATA BUS system, and replace the radio, without rewiring the factory to the trunk, that could have serious problems, again if it was such a big thing why can you get one at the dealer then? its toyota's warranty, not joe schmoe's toyota warranty? So if their aftermarker unit fails and causes damage, they wont honor toyota's warranty? Every once in awhile weve had customers come in with some dealer bs, and if can show them that our unit is working perfectly fine, its up to the dealer and weve won 99.9999999% Imust say we have the best lawyer out there, who let us know the real deal and how to shove it back up their.............

Gunman is right, I've been on both sides of it also if any thing goes wrong with a warranty item and you have an after market item any where near it they are going to blame it and try to get around it. I dont know why cause the manufacturer pays the dealer directly for the work and they end up making money. I asked one of my friends that is a service writer and he told me that they make commission on every labor hour they write up but they get less money if it is warranty work. So it benefits them for you to pull it out of your pocket. You just have to be keen and do your research.

true, most of it is common sense, if yoiu do something that alters the vechicle in certain ways , they can play with you on that, but if you have add ons, thats a different game
Also icfu is right on as far as the commision part, if toyota state 3 hours to do a specfic job and they do it in 2 they get a cut of the third hour cause they saved the dealer money, warranty jobs dont pay em. ahhhhhhhh............. see the conflict? some will try to make yoiu pay and still submit it to toyota.
