Fail-Safe Coolant Thermostat

Fail-Safe Coolant Thermostat

Does anyone know if the OEM coolant thermostat is of the fail-safe type (always fails in the open position) assuring that you never blow a head gasket from overheating due to a failed in the closed position thermostat.
And a failed thermostat is a question of when, not if. If not, I would think installing one of these would be cheap insurance. I really can't expect my wife to keep an eye on the coolant temp, to busy with makeup, cell phone, radio, etc., you know, the important stuff.
