squeaky clutch

squeaky clutch

Postby hari-bhari » Wed Sep 01, 2004 5:02 am

my clutch pedal squeaks. not only the actual pedal itself inside the car (where i can hear a little creak), but i also noticed taht when i'm inside the parking deck, i hear an actual squeak from inside the engine bay whenever i press/release the pedal. it occurs for the full length of pushing in/releasing the pedal and sort of sounds like a squeaky swingset or door might sound. is this a problem? easy fix? should i take it to the dealer for warranty work?

ehh, sticky situation, since there is no warranty on a clutch.......its a wear and tear item. but the noise may be coming from something else.

just check your brake master cylinder if there is any leak by the firewall. newer car integrated clutch master cylinder with brake master cylinder. you should not cosume brake fluid at all

on my dad's cressida, the clutch used to squeek (maybe your squeek and this squeek was different). I just LAVISLY sprayed lubricant all over the clutch pedal and whatever the thin staw could go to....(not knowing if this was good or bad for the car). The squeek was gone..but it came back yearly..and did the same!

Easy fix, my car did the same thing. Grab a can of white lithium grease (at least that is what I used) and spray the clutch pivot points under the dash and then have someone push the pedal while you stick your head in the engine bay and locate the squeak. Spray the pivot points in the engine compartment. Squeak gone (at least for me). My shifter also squeaked when I would move it from nuetral to 1st and 2nd gears. Easy to find the pivot point by looking in the engine compartment.

i have the same problem, my mechanic looked at it and said it was the ball bearing joint or something. he sprayed wd-40 on it (in the engine bay) and the noise isnt as loud now. but he said you have to really get in there and put some grease or lube on that joint, but its not going to hinder any performance or anything. no big deal if you can live with a lil noise.

yea i mean its not that loud, i can only hear it in a parking deck because of the echos and what-not. but just wanted to make sure that its not a sign of a problem.

I have this condition also. My local mom/pop mechanic said it is common with Toyotas and does not indicate any kind of failure mode. I does not bother me so I have not tried to correct it.

Some lubes/oils break down rubber so careful what you spray on seals.
