What octane do you use for 2AZ-FE?

I have a 2002 Solara 4-cylinder, I have been using 87 octane ever since I got it. In the owners manual it says:

Fuel Type: Unleaded gasoline, Octane Rating 87 or higher

Will 91 octance give noticable performance? Does anybody use 91 octane or better for their 2AZ-FE engine?

Won't benefit your 4cyl unless you are running force induction. The 2AZ-FE is a low compression motor...and will not benefit from higher octanes unless you are experiencing pinging/knocking during acceleration (normal 87 octane will not ping on a properly tuned motor).

i'd try both... my old car had the middle (87?) octane recommended, but I actually got about 100 miles more per tank when I put Premium.

I haven't even tried putting 87 in my 2az-fe, but my dad says not to... (he's always paranoid about the government slipping things into things and gasoline is one of them :lol:

)

the octane doesnt make a difference. I can easily get over 400 miles on one tank of gas doesnt matter what grade. However, just recently i started adding octane booster and that just makes the car run a bit smoother, thats my two cents

Be careful with that stuff. I used it on ly older car and it caused pistion ring damage.

Octane booster does NOT raise the octane level of your gasoline. Like if you had a +4 octane boost on 93 octane it won't be 97 octane. It does lower your engines octane requirement. Some cars require 91 octane. With those cars you can use 87 octane with octane boost because now therotically your engine only needs 87 octane. Although on paper it looks like it was a +4 gain on your gas octane, in real life its a -4 on your octane requirement. Big difference
