Eh doesnt help performance althought the spare is kinda of heavy since its a full size spare... But I took mine out so the car wouldnt be soo DAM low when pulling out the drive way. And I put it back in for trips or anywhere far from home... Either way for a V6 the solara sure can crank out allot of miles per gallon. I love toyota

On a side note, how long has your spare been sitting? Remember, spares do go bad after years of sitting w/o any kind of rotation. I took mine out, it wasn't in very good shape. I wouldn't of felt safe if I had to drive on it.

I don't even take my spare out when I go to the track. I prefer the whole full "street trim" deal. Daily driving I just try to keep my car clean anyway with nto a lot of stuff. Althoguh I really need to take out the power tools and hydraulic jack I've let sit in my trunk for the last week, that crap ain't light.

As far as actual work on my car geared toward weight reduction... I wouldn't think about that til I have a lot of money to make my car REALLY fast and am planning on using it as a track and show car, and to take out on weekends. I'd also at that point obviously have a daily drive 2nd ride. I think even if I was S/Cd I still wouldn't look much into weigh reduction until I got up to Greg and Joe B's levels, which would about put me in the position I was just talking about.

For the plate, you should probably call DMV. I dont think they will issue you an old set, and I dono if you can repaint your own legally. If you have a set off an old car you may be able to transfer it to you solara. Again thats one for DMV. It might look kind of odd, but if thats what you want there is most likely a way.

Since my car is black I thought a black licence plate would look good but the DMW people said something that confused me. Something about the car that I take the plate off of has to be the same make and model ??

I think these would look tight on my black car.
