Postby socalisolara » Wed Oct 05, 2005 10:54 am

i have 00 i4 solara and i yesterday while getting my oil changed the worker told me that solara's are known for getting frequently dirty tranny fluid and that mine has to be changed. He quoted me $65.00. Now, my question is, what he said about solara's getting frequent dirty tranny fluid true? and is $65.00, worth it?

$65 seems a little cheap. Might not be a true flush, might just be a drain and refill.

well if you do it yourself I hear its pretty cheap, or maybe thats just changing the fluid. What exactly is the "flush" part?

$65 at a dealership sounds more like a drain&fill.
My flush costed me $135 at StartToyora (w/ coupon pricing). IMO, it how hard you drive and if its city/hwy which will determine the dirtyness of your fluid. As long as your keep a constant watch on the fluid color...See it go from red to maroon and then then to darker marnoon..you will know when to change.

I have to agree. The $40 difference to both have a Toyota service tech do it and have a computer record of your car's maintenance history is money well spent, IMHO.

$65 to me sounds like a simple drain instead of a flush to me as well.

That sounds about right. Put it this way, a tranny flush is gonna cost 100 +.

What's the difference if you do the flush at the dealer or if you do it at jiffy lube? They both hook it up to a machine to flush all the fluid out.
