Rear light failure....

Rear light failure....

Postby Deion » Fri Oct 07, 2005 8:07 pm

I keep getting the rear light fail light, it comes on after I hit my brakes and stays on after that.

I checked if the bulbs are out but they seem normal. The only thing is the LED's on my spoiler only has like 4 working bulbs. Anyone know where's the cheapest place to get the strip if that's the problem?

Would something like the ODB-II reader tell me exactly what it is? I know they tell me engine codes but would it tell me other problems like the light failures?

Or did that carbon trunk ever go through? With a spoiler with LED's?

Well, some OBD-II readers will read just about everything in the electrical system. The cheaper ones only read the engines sensors. I'd say that the LED's have nothing to do with it. If you want to replace them, you could just buy some and replace the ones that are burnt. I put a bid on a bag of 100 5mm white led's (5000mcd) for like .99, so they are pretty cheap on ebay. I checked local elec stores and they want 3.99 a piece for the damn things! [/end rant]
Anyhow, I'd guess that you have a brake light out on the dual filament bulbs. Id have someone sit in the car with you behind it and have them go through all the lights..brakes, turn sigs, reverse, ect..

The bulbs used for the rears are kinda like dual filaments... parking lights are onoe thing, but stepping on the break is another.

Have someone else stand behind you while you step on/off the brake and you might see that the "braking" light is out...

if those are ok then yeah maybe your LEDs... i kinda doubt that would make the dash light warning go off
