water leakage

Postby jazzlara » Tue Apr 12, 2005 11:56 am

Its raining here today and when i got into my car and started driving, a pretty good amount of water fell from where the garage door opener is supposed to be.....why?

It never happens in car washes, is it leaking in from the front part of the sunroof or windshield?

thanks

*thread revival* (..Yes it either this or someone yells SEARCH!!!!!)

Mine started leaking today on the passenger side. It wasnt acually leaking, but the floor was really damp. Then I realized the headliner was damp too and so was the spot between the front dash and the door. I first thought it was the door. Then I took a close look at the sunroof, and I see this puddle on the right side when its open. I look again and realized that some water always leaks into the metal part below the sunroof, and it supposed to drain out. My right drain is indeed clogged. I took a windex bottle nozzle with just the tube, and sprayed out what I could out of the duct. Seems like its clogged lower because I sprayed a good deal of water out of there. Now...where is the bottom of this drain?

EDIT - I think its behind the splashguard behind the front wheels.

I tried to take a straightened coathanger to it with no sucess since our drains are at such a weird angle that you cant shove a stiff wire in there. I took a can of compressed air (Dust off, stuff they use for computers), put it in the hold, held the red tube in so it wouldnt blow off, plugged up the rest of the hole with my finger, and let loose. I wasnt sure if it did anything, but as i was cleaning up, i saw a huge puddle of water coming from behind the wheel well on the passenger side near the jackpoint. I guess i got it unclogged, so if anyone else gets this problem, try the above.

I'll find out next rainfall.

I've been meinaig to see if I can go by the dealer for this problem as well.

This has happened during HEAVY rain about 3 or 4 times in the nearly 5 months I've had the car (it rains like woah in Florida)

I've also had a small leakage problem somewher ein the region of the bottom of my drivers side window near the front of the door sill.

I've been meaning to look at it and see if there's any way to help out this problem.

My theory on the drivers side door is a loose seal or somethign stupid, but as for the garage door opener assembly I have no idea. The firs ttime it happened to my I had parked my car at a slightly forward inclined angle, so I think maybe it just need to sit there long enough in the heavy rian to drain downa little, then when I started moving forward it leaked in. So I assume that it build up like a tiny pool in the front of somethign up there, then when you move forward it leaks out. This has to be the case as the first time it happened it had since stopped raining when I got back in my car.

It sucks because if there is a seal or something that's not fitting right you'l eaither need good replacement, or to caulk somethign up somewhere. Caulking in my mind should be the road less traveled because you may inhibit the movement of the actual sunroof in one way or another, or if you actually caulked the leaking spot from above the door opener Assy. then you would be causing water to pool up and sit up there, which may eventually disrupt the circuitry in that whole little gadget up there.

I don't know about the leaking on the floor of my drivers side... could it really be the sunroof?I figure it had to do with the door. My dash is never wet though, but I guess it may be leaking down just right.

Where are the drains you speak of Larry?

Its probably the moonroof. There is a pool that forms up there on the metal frame below the moonroof, that should port through a drain. You can see this drain if you retract the sunroof, one on each side. If theres a pool, the drains clogged. Chances are its gunna be dry except inside the drain if it didnt rain recently. Mine leaked through the headliner by the top edge of the A pillar.

The sunroofs not really leaking, its like that water that normally gets past the sunroof gasket has no where to drain to and overflows into the headliner.

Do what I did with the windex nozzle/hose in the drain hole and see if it squirts out any water. If it does, its clogged.
