My '99 SLE V6 Solara has been feeling very slow lately. The initial torque off the line is noticebly dimished, and it practically has no pull through the 4-6k RPM range, where the engine usually is strong. In fact, I tried to floor it the other day and it literally hung at 4,500, barely increasing. The auto transmission had to take a second downshift before the needle started crawling past 4.5k. The car still accelerates OK, just not smoothly or as strongly as it did before. Does anyone have any possible solutions to this? It's only started being noticeable recently, but I don't know for how long this might have been going on.

Some background on the car:
96k miles
Auto transmission
3.0 V6
Major 90k schedule maintenance recently done (~2 months ago)
Using Getty 91 octane premium gas

I'm not too familiar with car mechanics so try and keep that in mind :-)

Yup agreed. Cleaning the Throttle Body will get back your instant response and doing a full seafoam treatment will help out a lot. Do a search and look up on it I already wrote the whole procedure on how to do it.

Good Luck,

sounds like you need a new fuel filter

I just changed mine and had one of those engine flushes done and already that shaved .4 seconds off of my 1/8mile time.

Strider327, could you send me a link to your post on cleaning the throttle body? Or perhaps someone would like to clue me in on how to use the damn search feature on this forum? I tried searching through every one of your posts, as well as searching the forums for your name and for "clean throttle body" and its variations. No luck.

almost sounds like the 02 sensor... I'd name off the typical, like the fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, wires etc...but you had the tune up. It's either the 02, the fuel filter, or your injectors need a good cleaning - fuel injector cleaner.

DONT and I mean DO NOT get the 02 sensor fixed by a mechanic. It will cost you major bucks and it's a $50 part (bosche) or cheaper...it will take some major major elbow grease to get the fukker off but it will be much worth it to twist it out and splice your wires rather then spending $400+

So cleaning the throttle body is definitely a lot harder than I thought it would be. I've never worked on an engine before so I'm pretty lost here. I got the hose clamp off of the throttle body, but the hose wouldn't budge. It's really short and thick, making it really hard to get the thing loose. Any tips on getting the hose off so I can actually clean the throttle body?

Try using a flat head screw driver to pry the rubber from sticking to the throttle body cause heat and over awhile of not removing anything will make it stick
