Smell after oil change

I had my oil changed today. Went from dino to synthetic. I am getting a smell of burning oil from the car. Is it possible that some oil might be spilled on something that gets hot? how long before this burns off?

Did you change it yourself or did a place do it? Most likely the oil just spilled a little, you might even see smoke. Its not big deal and it will be done soon enough

Had my mechanic do it! He is usually pretty careful about spillage. He knows i'm a little anal. Does it take long to burn off? i've put about 40 mi on the car since the change!

sometimes drip gets dripped onto the downpipe, and it may take a while. I've had it as much as 50 miles. And double check to make sure the filter and drain plug are screwed on tight.
