Take it off
If it rattles when you shake it, its broke.

If you go to the trouble of getting it off, you might as well replace it even if its not broken, since its like a 5 dollar part.

Ok so just take out the black L connector from the engine to the hose in back of the engine on the passenger side? Just one question why would it rattle?

Huh? Rattle? What? If it doesn't rattle then that means it is gummed up and stuck in one position. Use a piece of old hose to blow air through the valve. You should only be able to get air to move through the valve one way. If it goes both ways or no air gets through at all, or if the part is just old (30k+) then it is time for a new part.

I forget if the rattle is bad or not, but I think its a moot point. If you take the time out to actually take it out and check it, you might as well replace it, whether its used and still working, or bad. Whats it, a 3-5 dollar part? at least for my I4 it was, not sure about the 1MZ, but I'm sure its not too much more if it is more.

EDIT - I read up. You should be able to blow in one side and feel the air go through, and blow in the other side and NOT feel it go through the other way. The valve lets air in one way only.
