DRL Sensor Question-

DRL Sensor Question-

Postby dbanker » Fri Jan 10, 2003 4:10 pm

I have a '99 Solara SLE with the DRL feature that comes with the two front sensors that are right behind the the windshield in the interior. Those of you with this will notice the sensor has a cover. It has a circular shape and is roughly 1 1/2" in diameter. There is a thin plastic piece that has a circular shape in which the color matches the top of the top dash, and a plastic see-through dome that covers the part of the sensor. It's hard to describe...

This piece (on the driver's side) has been lost and I don't have a clue where it is. So right now just the sensor is showing. I went to my Toyota dealership and they ordered the wrong part, then said if I want the cover I need to get the entire sensor assembly to the tune of $150.

So I'm wondering if anyone knows where/how I can get this piece? I'm thinking about checking into a junk yard but thought I'd ask here first. Thanks-

I was wondering what those things on the dash were......intresting! What are the sensors for? Our Solara has the passenger seat belt light blinking continually, but my dealership is suppose to fix it soon!

Make sure there is no weight in the passenger seat. Thats what causes the sensor to go off.

The sensors sense when it is dark out so the lights automatically turn on.

I have a question for all you with '99 SLE's or anyone that owns a Solara SLE:

I just spoke with someone at Toyota and they said that the drivers side DRL sensor IS NOT supposed to have a cover over it, while the passenger side is supposed to.

Those of you with this model or that have the DRL sensors could you check your Solara and see if this is the case? Again, you're looking at the sensors and seeing if there's a clear dark-plastic cover and a plastic ring around it that matchings the color of the dash. They are both located right behind the windshield and lateral to the windshield defroster. If this is the case you should clearly be able to tell the difference...

Thanks for the help-

There is no cover on the left sensor, while there's a circle ring around the sensor on the right. BTW it's not a DRL sensor. DRL comes on when the car is on and the hand brake releases. That is a light sensor to turn on the headlight automatically. :D

SOB! I wish I knew that before I went to all the trouble of trying to find a cover for it. I just thought it got misplaced. Thanks for writing impactX...now I can just quit worying about the damn thing!

I also thought those two sensors were part of the DRL assembly/system? Even though the sensor has nothing to do with the actualy DRL's. Ah well...who cares. thanks again-
