Yeah it's a design flaw that will always be around. Wipe it up really well...or else you will start smelling burnt oil after a while. Plus dirt builds up on it and it looks ugly after a while. Spray simple green down there and squirt it with a light stream of water...and it gets alot if not all of it out.
