scraped my passenger door. what can i expect for a repaint

I did that to my tercel about 12 years ago. I was so mad when I hit the pillar that I floored it; needless to say it made it worse (hell!) I lived with that dent for 2 years until I traded the ol' Tercel.
Good luck with the repairs.

i think the picture is a bit deceiving because it looks like i just picked up some concrete residue, but if you run your hands along you, you can feel the individual scratch lines pretty easily. most of them do go down to the primer.

so anyways, i took it to a few different places for an estimate and got as high as 2300 dollars at the damn dealership, what a rip off! they wanted to basically respray the whole damn car

but aside from that i got estimates in the 500 dollar range.

some places only want to do the door only, while others insist the quarter panel should be blended as well.

the problem with blending the quarter panel is that clearcoat would only go up to the roofline where there would be an ever-so-slight border between the old clearcoat and the new.

conversely, the problem with only painting the door is that since its a pearl paint, some painters seem to think it wouldnt be a perfect looking match from some angles.

as far as the molding, some shops think i should take it off and either have it replaced or repainted, while other places want to do the respray with the moldin on the car.

does anyone have recommendations?

If your going to keep the car a while...pay the money and do it right. If not, every time you walk by and see you car doesn't match...it will piss you off!

I would have to really trust someones ability to let them just paint the door. My car is the same color and it is TOUGH to match. Molding off, this is a hard thing to paint and not have run.

I've had some great paint jobs done at maco for $275 (whole car) but anything I care about I take to a guy who does phenonimal work. I pay a little more but its worth it.

Painting and body work....you get what you pay for
