Chance of MAF going bad?

Chance of MAF going bad?

Ok I finally took my car into the dealership to check out my CEL and sound issue... The results

Blown Rear passenger strut- $600 something with labor
Blown Bank Rear o2 sensor- $300 something with labor
Blown MAF SENSOR?????- $300 something with labor.

Ok for 600 I might as well buy tokico struts for all four wheels.. The o2 sensor Im definatly letting them do that to get the warrantee in case it blows again.

But the MAF? Whats the chance of our car blowing one of these? I mean it seems strong and all. How in the world did I pull a code for that? Any ideas? Im sooo not getting this replace unless its a known issue. *PS- If I end up buying it, Im installing it myself.. Hell no I aight paying no labor on something so easy to install*

the MAF might just dirty. if it is blown, your car would runs very funny.

but it might be a chain reaction happened like this

you have a cheap air filter and it sucked alot of s_h_i_t_s in and it messed up the MAF sensor. So the MAF still give wrong signal and cause your car runs miserablelly rich or lean. that would cause the air fuel sensor malfunction. and if you ignore this situation, your catalytic convertor will be teh next victim.

well... sometimes dealer just want to replace all the stuffs to make sure they fix the problem. so if i were you, i would take out the maf to clean up and put back stock air intake. Then i will take out the rear af sensor to clean it up and put it back see if that would work. yes sometimes you just need to clean stuffs instead of replace them.

I agree. Do a little cleaning first.

Also, when I pull codes I always reset them once to see if they stay off. Sometimes its just random thing (after all, we're talking about a computer)

Example- Nissan wanted $400 to replace a knock sensor when I pulled a code 6 months ago (I was driving in the pouring rain). I reset the light....never came on again.

Neighbor- Pulled 3 codes in his Ford (chain reaction)....I reset, never came on again. Ford wanted over $1000 to fix everything.

I have had cases where I reset and the code does pop up again. Usually I notice this with O2 sensors. Then you replace.

Anyway, don't rush into things. Check and inspect first. I would even steer clear of the dealership....sounds like they're trying to pay off their Xmas bills....
