Tranny/Ecu problem?

Tranny/Ecu problem?

I might have a problem. Lets say i put the tranny in 2 and floor it when im doing 40 the car doesnt downshift it just picks up and isnt that fast. If im doing 35 it redlines at 45mph but it really jumps. When im goin 40 and i gun it the car moves but not really that fast, but if i start at 35 and floor it the car downshifts and redlines at about 45mph but it really does jump, i dont get the same effect if i floor it at 40. What could be wrong?

What you are describing is completely normal. The transmission on both the I4 and v6 will not shift into 1st above 37mph or so. Granted, it redlines around 45mph however dropping into 1st at 40 for only an additional 5mph is stressful on the tranny and is probably not all that useful from a performance standpoint.

As for as the lack of power is concerned. Flooring it at 40mph is going to catch the very bottom of 2nd gear where torque is not very abundant. I think this is even more apparent with the V6 since the 1MZ seems to have a significant torque drop around 3750 RPM..."can anyone explain this?". This is just the inheirent operation of a internal gasoline engine. This is why the upcoming Lexus GS hybrid is expected to have the 30mph - 50mph performance of a supercar....because of the flat torque of an electric motor.

I have seen a Honda Insight "IMO the goofiest looking car ever" pull on a C5 corvette off the line for a fraction of a second.....very funny.

yeah.. it will only drop down a gear at certain rpm's.. your just finding the shift rpm's.. its just an inconvienence if anything

it's a fail safe for the ecu/tranny not to over-rev the engine.
