Oil change car seems faster!!

Hey guys , just got my first oil change on my car,, lol and had them put in pennzoil.
they said they put in winter oil and after i looked at the receipt it said 5W30.

it says this car is made for 10W30.

Can this damage my car? the weather here near toronto gets pretty cold so i dont think it should harm it, but not the car accelerates alot better i find, especially in the cold.

anyway can 5W30 mess up my car in winter months?

should i go back to 10W30 in summer months?

thanks,

Mike

I'd use 5w30 for your toronto winters and possibly 10w30 for your summers. No it doesn't harm the car, 5s30 is meant for lower temps. I did the likewise when i lived in Wisconsin.

The car was designed to use 5w-30 with the option to use 10w-30.

They were 100% correct by using 5w-30. 10w is too thick if the temperatures will get below freezing.

If you look in your owners manual, it has a nice display on what temps are acceptable for what oil.

10w may handle real high temps (100+) better than 5w, but overall, 5w is a more versatile oil. It can be used in both extremes with no problems.

I used to switch to 10w in the summer, but since I don't put enough miles on my car to do oil changes every 3 months, I didn't want it sitting in my engine when the temps got colder.

Yeah 5W30 will be ok for your car, cause of the colder temps.
10W30 is for like summer weather.
I switch around back and forth between 5W30 and 10W30 when the weather changes.

LA is getting way to hot down here, I'm about to change back to 10w-30, 5w-30 was for the winter but seeing its the winter and its already freaking hot i think i might change back to 10w30

When I was in NY I used full synthetic 5w30 year round. Now I live in Florida and still use 5w30 year round. Why should I switch to 10w30?

from what i have heard quaker state is bad, and Toyota or at least the one by me uses some Esso crap.

I have heard pennzoil is good for the car or else i wouldnt use it, but i just started using it. it was that or crappy tire oil.

esso is american exxon (mobil) and it is what we (on the dl) use at the dealer, most oils are the same as far as conventional oils go and as for synthetic, i don't advise it for most cars, i lost a couple of connecting rods and such on synthetic but i've been told that those were freak incidents (liars) but just stick with 5w30 unless your car happens into like arizona then you may want 10w30 just for the higher operating temps

Yeah 10W30 is way too thick for the cold weather longer to warm up.
5W30 is best for cold weather.
I use Castrol oil, and about to switch to semi-syntheic when i run out of the normal stuff.

for the track during the summer, I used full synthetic mobile1 15w-something. Racing around at redline 8-9hrs in 100* weather can really put a beating on the engine. I'd say go with your gut feeling. On a trip to reno during the winter when the temps are below freezing, I put in mobile1 full synthetic 5w-20. My motor has 153,000+ miles with oil changed every 3000 or when dirty. I still go out on the track and it was supercharged @ 145000 miles.
