Engine Problem- Sputtering

Engine Problem- Sputtering

Postby drock03 » Tue Feb 07, 2006 1:26 pm

I'm having an issue with my V6 engine on my 2000. Car was running mint up until Sunday when I accelerating up a hill and noticed my car was lagging pretty back. It was sputtering almost like I was running out of gas. I gave it more gas, the car down shifted and took off, but still ran rough. I didn't throw a code until today (misfire 1 cylinder, misfire 3 cylinder, misfire 4 cylinder) all pretty random. I checked a few things....Fuel pump is pushing 50 lbs, fuel filter is clean and brand new. Any ideas???? I actually notice a strong smell coming from the exhaust also.

could be maf check to see that the hot wire upinside the maf is not covered with crud if it is than you might be able to salvage the part just go to the local electronics store and get some electronic circuit cleaner any pressurized liquid that evaporates with no residue should work, i use carquest quick dry electronic cleaner at work. also note that the hot wire is up inside the sensor and you can see both the ambient wire and the hot wire from the bottom through the opening. you may have bought bad gas you should be running 91 octane to 94 octane normally, you could have worn out or junk aftermarket sparkplugs or there could be another unseen cause. but check that stuff first.

when did you have maintenance?

seems like some of the spark plug wires are loose or not fully connected.

My car has 40K on it. I've changed tranny fluid, battery, air filter and fuel filter. Plugs are recommended at 60K, but I think I might change them early or look at MAF...that's a good idea

Bone stock....I'd love to add some mods, but I usually keep cars for 6-8 months then dump them. I don't like to loose money on depreciation.

Yup, one of the coil packs was bad. $75 bucks and its fixed. I also changed the plugs and wires too. All and all, took me about 45mins for everything. Clipping the wires in the wire channels was the biggest pain

Nah, I just look for smokin deals or people who really need the $$. My last car (03 Maxima with 8K miles) I bought for $16,500, put 10K miles on it and sold for $18,500. 2 doors vehicles are definitely harder to sell though....we'll see on this one

I had the same problem with a coil pack. Good thing it is a cheap and quick fix.
