In the market for a new car, considering 99/00 Solara

I THINK accord has higher insurance rate because it had more theif and accident rates

No one can beat Toyota quality

I had a 94 accord before my solara, my sister has an 01.

the aftermarket support is JUNK, all ricey unless you wanna spend serious cash to do some real work to the engine. my baby pretty much fell apart at 125k - fuel line and brake line went, as did the rear calipers, water pump and radiator. pretty crappy for 'reliability' imo.

i'd obviously advocate for the solara:) other options may be a maxima/altima (pending on what size you want). they're both quite fun to drive and reliable as well. I just loved the sporty look and feel of the sol.

i havent driven a maxima, but the altima sucked. i liked the noise level my brother had 18xxx, and its basically crap now. its in and out of the dealership and its getting ridiculous. im not saying that the altimas are bad cuz yea they are fun to drive. i didnt like how thin the car felt. like the doors and all, felt kind of cheap and if i wouldve gotten hit from the side i didnt feel safe. now this may seem a little bias, but get the solara, you wont regret it

No to cougar.. I went to test drive one when it came out and AC wasn't working on the BRAND NEW car! It was funny cuz the temperature display reading was showing inside was hotter than outside during a test drive. I guess temperature display worked! LOL.

My solara has about 120k miles on it and it had brake boost replaced. That was my only problem so far. But nice thing is that I asked Toyota dealer about good will program and asked factory rep to replace it for free (at about 90k miles) and they did! I only had to pay for brake fluid change! I am very happy with the car even now. It runs strong and smooth.

I have heard of engine sludge problem on v6 but not sure if that's true...

Agreed, strut mounts are a problem in the 99 and maybe 00 solaras. I had that problem. Also bring a cd with you on the test drive, my cd player didnt work.

Bought mine w/ 63,000 on it for 9000. auto SLE v6 - sliver w/ charcoal leather

I am hearing noises from the struts, guess its that, and my cd player broke 1 week later, lol, thank god for sirius satelite......

if its up front and you hear a clunking sound when you go over bumps. its the strut mounts.
