Shaky Clutch

Postby g_money85 » Sat Mar 25, 2006 1:21 am

I have a I4 Solara that I bought last year used. Ive never driven sticks long enough to know the difference but my clutch pedal will shake a bit when i release or put the car in reverse, or press on the clutch gentley. New clutch? the car had 63K miles when i bought it, now it has 82K. When did you know when your clutch was giving up?
Hurricanes are like women : when they come, they're wet and wild, but when they leave they take your house and car.

A sticky pedal doens't neccessarily mean it's the clutch, the mechanis of the pedal could just be off due to rust or somethign else. I'm not an expert with clutches, but also just try revving up to about 3k in lower gears and see if it's slipping. I'm still on the original clutch with just under 82k and it's starting to slip some and in some odd places as well. Generally depending on how the car has been driven clutches tend to be replaced between 80 and 130k. If you driv e acar right the stock clutch will hold up for a LONG ass time. But if it gets beat up by dropping gears without rev matching etc. you can expect it to go much sooner.

Considering your mileage you'll probably be needing a new clutch soon anyway, and with this problem I'd acout guarantee a new clutch would fix it.
