Trying to familiarize myself with the strut world I saw that Monroe has a complete package you simply bolt in using their sensotrac struts. I'm looking for a stock ride - I don't want anything stiffer - and am wondering if anyone has had experience with this assembly.

Struts

Depending on what you drive I have a set of OEM stocks/springs for both a 1999 Camry V6 (will work with 1997-2001 Camry V6) and 2001 Solara V6 (will work with 1999-2002 Solara V6). Jon.

What I think is wrong with my suspension are the strut mounts. One thought is I'd rather replace everything at this point and not worry about another part wearing out - hence - $800 doesn't seem out of the ballpark.

I've read as many posts as I could find on the suspension, and KYB was recommended, but start adding up money for all the other parts and it's going to be $800 in parts, or close to it, anyway...

We install them in alot of customer's cars, and don’t see too many come back. They're very quick and easy to install, but they’re a little pricey for my taste. If you are comfortable with the price, I don’t see any reason that they wouldn’t restore O.E. level performance, and I believe the have a lifetime warranty.

i dont think it is worth it because it just has factory performance. why not install a set of KYB or tokico along with eibach lower springs. it rides nice and give a better look.

Mind you, I only know what I've read in the archives on this site. about suspensions. I'm not interested in a stiffer or more responsive ride. I drive on terrible rural roads, some of which have a six inch ridge between tire ruts. If I was able to drive Hwy 120 through Tuolomne meadows as my commute, I'd stiffen and lower and risk getting in chase/races with cop/rangers.

I just want to stop the clunking and tighten the "feel" a bit. thanks though for the suggestions...!

all shocks are bolt on, the rear ones on a solara are a pain in the ass though

$800 is a bit steep just for replacements IMO. Buying Stock struts and new mounts should be about $600 roughly. I don't know how Monroe develops their springs to go with the struts especially when I'm kinda used to seeing Monroe suspension components made to the domestic market...I could be wrong. I don't know how the ride quality would be with that setup. my .02

I would be amazed if you can get any shocks to bolt in to a Solara. I mean I guess you could, but it would be a crap ton of fabrication.

The biggest advantage of the quick struts is that you don’t need a spring compressor, it is simply a bolt in application. If you were to buy all the components, you would still need the compressor to install them, and there would be the normal safety issues associated with the unloading of the springs. It’s doable at home, with the right tools, but not as easy as the quick struts.

Update on my strut search...

The guys at Shockwarehouse told me that Monroe quickstruts are not designed for the V6 Solara, only the I4. This is counter to what is found on most online parts websites. Monroe told the tech that they would not honor the lifetime warranty if the quick struts were installed on a V6 solara

the cheapest I found KYB struts, mounts & boots for was from ajusa.com - all four sides replaced for $515.64, including shipping. Anyone know of anywhere else with a better price?
