why am i losing sooo much oil!?

why am i losing sooo much oil!?

Postby pervo » Thu Aug 17, 2006 10:00 pm

3 quarts in 750 mi (driving 350 mi one way then back)
previouse to this i drained my oil and had about half a quart left!

pulled the plugs to do a compression test
compression checks out on all cylinders
4/6 plugs had moderate to heavy white deposits
(cylinder 1,2,4,6)
very surprising since i just had the plugs replaced due to misfiring 3 months ago

also having error codes from the EGR system, replaced the egr vsv and seem to need to replace the valve possition sensor

not to confuse w/ the egr system just including the info incase its pertinant

realy worried here :(

was your compression ratio good? when you floor your car, did you see smokes?

if you dont see somke and compression raitio is good, than i would say your engine has some vents was clogged that build too much internal pressure and shot out the engine oil. (check if your throttle body is dirty and greasy)

well i already know its either a valve job or a piston rings but the compression was fine?
the hanes manual doesnt explain how to do a valve job and i just dont have the money to give the dealer
so its DIY for me
id rather be more educated tan just tear everything apart

as for the smoke it was very faint blue.... but i havent seen it in a while
gotta deal with it because im certain it is what f-ed up my egr system

it is quite normal to see light smoke in the moring starting up.

does your valve making ticking noise? if the piston ring is bad, you would have a bad compression raito and you would see colorful smoke when you floor it

Dude, chill, it's just the oil gnome. Set a bear trap and you might be able to catch him, otherwise you're SOL.
