corner lights breaking off?

corner lights breaking off?

I was just wondering if anyone else has had to replace the corner lights multiple times? The little tab that the screw goes into snaps off, and the light ends up just hanging by the cable. It has happened to me like 3 or 4 times now. It has happened to OEM lights, and the cheapo clear corners off ebay. This has been my only complaint with the 'lara. It has treated me great through about 40,000 miles over the last 2 years.

Hasn't ever happened to me but keeps happening with one of my friends and her solara. Aftermarket, stock, replacement stock, all thier tabs kept breaking off on one side.
I had to ghetto rig under the hood with duct tape to keep it from falling out, and its been sort of fine ever since. It doesnt seem like it aligns straight 100% but its better than hanging by a cable.

My guess is that there was an accident on that corner before my friend got her car and the fender metal is slightly off, and the metal is bent enough to stress that piece of plastic when screwed in.

My driver corner housin' is really hard to get out.
My passenger corner housin' is really easy to take out. To the point that it won't clip in, so i have to ghetto rig it to stay in.
Neva broke the tab before.
Did have an accident though....

That happened to my passenger side. Only once though. I thought that the body shop had done it, since that fender had been replaced like two months before, but I guess not. At any rate, a new one only cost me $35 shipping and all from some parts web site I can't rember now. Does kinda worry me that it will happen again tho....

Nah its not that. Its that the tab is just plastic and pretty much unpliable.

If the screw hole on the frame is even a little off (as I said maybe due to a previous accedent and repair), then the tab has to bend a little bit to get the screw to align with the frame, and this stresses the plastic tab over time until it breaks off.

i only have a crack in my driverside tab.
where many hate, few will love,
But for those who love,
they'll see what it's like to live.
