Scratches

Scratches

Postby Phenom24 » Mon Mar 31, 2003 10:01 pm

What sucks is when you're:

Always sure to not park next to big cars

Park in extra-wide parking spots

Park far way from everyone else

Try not to park under trees (falling acorns)

Keep the car clean

AND THEN THE HOOD GETS SCRATCHED.

Having black metallic paint seemed like such a good idea. I don't have any clue how the hood got nailed, but I'm talking a good long scratch. And not just one, it's like 3 next to each other.

Weeping, weeping

Is there anything I can do other than trying to touch up black metallic paint?

(is quite bummed)

yeah, you can find the pricks who scratched up your hood and have a word with them...

that should alleviate your suffering.

See if its just a scratch in the clear coat or whether it went down to the paint. Dark color tent to show scratches much more :( Run your hands along the scratch, if it goes in, then its down to the paint, if not its probally in your clear coat. You can goto a local hardware store and pick up polishing compound. Apply a light coat of that and rub in circles, then buff out and wax over it. It should get rid of the scratch

To be honest, it doesn't LOOK deep. But man, talk about heartbreak.

I come out all "Wow the car looks nice in the sun" and then WHAT?

I will definitely give that a shot.

:)

Thanks!!

(Wonders how much a new black hood might cost) :(

Phenom24,

We all can understand ur feelin. Sorry to hear that.
Uhm... it's time for CF hood perhaps?

I would say, try to buff it with polishing compound (test at small area first).
And if it's deep, touch it up.

The key to touch up is:

Make sure the touch up paint is as thin as possible.
When it's a bit thick, add paint thinner.
Apply the paint as thin as possible. You don't want it bubble up.
Wait untill it dries, and re-apply again.

I usually cut the paint brush diagonally so that it has sharp point.

Hope that helps.

Thanks all - hey I guess I shouldn't get worked up about it - people are out in the desert getting shot at and I'm worried about a scratch on my car.

Sheesh.

But I'll definitely see about the compound or whatever - my brother mentioned a clay bar or something...

Let ya know how it goes.

A clay bar works amazing for cleaning your car, but i dont think it'll do anything to remove the scratch. A lot of the track racers, after the shreaded rubber gets onto their paint use a clay bar to clean their car.

Oh yeah - went next door to my work today and asked about my scratches!

(I work next to a detail shop!)

The guy says "No problem, have those suckers out in less than 5 minutes."

:)

(Now to see if they actually come out!) But oh yeah!!!!! Pumped up!
