02 sensor replacement

02 sensor replacement

Postby Akfahad » Sat Sep 30, 2006 10:06 am

Hey guys,

Got my 02 sensor replaced this week from the dealer. Everything was fine until about a day later, the RPM's at idle will jump, give it some gas and it'll go away (it seems to go away after running it awile too). Today, however, I just cleaned and detailed the engine bay and it threw a CEL. Haven't checked the code yet on it...but was wondering, since replacing the 02 sensor, will that require me to do another dyno? Possibly why the RPM's are jumping?

cleaning your Throttle Body may solve the idle jumping

The CEL could be anything else... hope you didnt get a defective o2 sensor
but make sure you cleaned up GOOD after youve cleaned the engine bay
Retired... its been fun Image

I was having the same jumping problem at idle. I cleaned the MAF sensor and throttle body, and also had my O2 sensors with air/fuel sensors. Now, I don't have any issues at idle or CEL's.

^^^^Replacement of the 02 sensors shouldn't effect anything I did on the dyno, correct...or would I have to re-tune since the swap?

Thanks tho for the replies, I'll have to do that.

It could of possibly. If your last O2 sensor was half bad or very old, but the difference shouldnt be to big to cause any concern.

I doubt it would affect anything you did on the dyno. Just change them out because it is affecting your performance.

ok, thanks Astro...but just got back from AutoZone and ran the code: PO120: TPS/Pedal Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction. I guess that would make sense since the RPM's are unstable at idle, not to mention the car died on the way home about 5 times. It won't die at a roll, but if I stop to make a turn or light, that's when it'll die, but it won't happen every time. Uuurgh, back to the dealer.......

I'd also look into cleaning your MAF with electronic parts cleaner and cleaning your throttle body. After I did that, along with the sensors, my idle is very smooth. From my previous post, I (I mean Gregtrd :) ) changed the O2 sensors that were put in by mistake to air/fuel sensors. I'm guessing having the wrong sensors plays a part in how it idled.

^^^So they put in 02 sensor's where your Air/Fuel Sensor's were located?

the dealer might have messed up then, origionally they told me my A/F sensor was bad, but when I picked up the car, it turned out it was the 02 sensor they replaced. Maybe they switched the sensors, they look almost exactly the same.

Funny thing, it wasn't a dealer - it was UPFD!

Greg is WAY more knowledgable on the 1MZ than any of the guys at UPFD!!!! Thanks, Greg!!!! :D

Just FYI in case anybody else has this problem, it turned out to be my throttle position sensor that was bad and replaced for $150.
