Tail lights

Postby speedgraphix » Tue Apr 08, 2003 7:31 am

Can anyone tell me how many different styles of tail lights there are out there? Ive seen 2 so far (not including the altezzas) and neither of them look like the ones on my 2001. Which years are what? (Im still new to this car.. so Im trying to learn the history/differences between generations) Thanks!

there are just two.The bi-leve red-white lamps that ran till 01 and the oval lamps that go from 02 - 03

There are 2 that are oem...

Gen 1 (99-01) which are half red (top half) and half clear (bottom half) with a yellow blinker light.

Gen 1.5 (02-03( which are overall red, with a half oval of yellow for the blinker, and a smaller oval toward the center for the reverse light.

Yours should resemble the 99-01 I described. The altezzas are a recent release... so you shouldn't see too many of them (hopefully you never will) ^_^
1GR-FE ftw!

Toyota's usual cycle for passenger cars is 5 years.

Year 1-2 stay the same
Year 3 is usually when they do a powertrain revision
Year 4-5 freshened exterior styling and interior option additions.

if you plan on lowering your car, definitely go for aftermarket struts, the suspension was tuned for comfort, not sport

as for problems, nothing really major i can think of
theres that engine sludge problem, but can be avoided by proper maintenance (regular oil changes), and anyways its covered under warranty

youll learn alot from just browsing...

If you like the soft comfy ride, then the stock setup is fine, but I LOVE my tokico/eibach setup. Rides great and handles awesome. Suspension has been one of the best upgrades so far

I have more than 40k miles logged on my Eibach/Tokico combo already...more than anyone has here...and it still runs nice and smooth on the flat surfaces...and still hugs the corners (proved that last week during canyon carving in San Jose) like brand new.

I found teins for cheap.. I was thinking about going with them.. but im still not sure.. where I am, adjustable coilovers would be better than just dropping my car..lots of potholes, hills, and then theres snow (in the winter). well... i do have lots of time to decide what i want to do.. maybe by then theyll come out with more options.

Your options are gonna be limited considering the MCV20/SXV20/ACV20 Camry & Solara chassis is phasing out. There will be more focus on the newer Gen5 Camry and upcoming Solara. Patience is key yes...but considering you have alot of road hazards, adjustable coilovers will never be as comfortable as riding on an upgraded spring/strut combo. Your ride will suffer with coilovers because they are designed for performance handling.
