Brake light has nothing to do with pads. It might indicate fluid level low or some booster problem but not pads.

i know... its happened to me before, but i really need new pads now... i just added a little brake fluid... when your E BRAKE light comes on, means your fluid is low, meaning you pads are wearing down so its using more fluid or something... anyone have instructions?

Sounds more like warped rotors if you ask me! Have it professionally checkout when in doubt!

grinding is your pads not warped rotors......warped rotors will make your steering wheel wobble when braking!

When the pads are worn, the pistons will be push a bit more toward the rotors. Your brake fluid level clould be lower because of that. Do not top it off until you replace the pads. If you do, once you put the pistons back into the cylinder, it will cause the fluid overflow.

If you can hear the grind, it could be that the pads are all gone and caliper is grinding on the rotor.
Take the wheel off and check it ASAP. Don't just keep driving.
It will make a groove on the rotor.

1. jack up the car
2. remove the wheel
3. remove the bottom caliper bolt 14mm i think
(this bolt holds the caliper to a bracket which is positioned over the rotor's face)
4. tilt the caliper out of the way
(secure it with some wire, or a 3rd hand/limb you may possess)
5. slide the old pad out of the caliper bracket; front and back
6. with a C-clamp, push the piston back into the caliper bore
(have someone check the level of brake fluid at the reservoir for overflow)
7. slide the new pad into place; front and back.
8. replace everything.

this should only take about 5-10 minutes once you remove the wheel.

when you use the c-clamp to push in the piston, remember to leave the pad in so that the piston is uniformly pushed in and the sleeve isnt damaged.

you mean the piston boot isnt damaged, right?

Brake Pads

Postby Texas Tornado » Mon Nov 27, 2006 3:33 am

Has anyone used or do you recommend EBC Green Stuff or Red Stuff Brake Pads for a 2003 SLE? Or; what brand do you recommend.

I also bought Front and Rear Brembo Drilled Rotors, can't wait until they arrive.

Thanks for the help.
