Well I just wrecked my car-total loss-fully modded 98 Nissan Sentra......

Image

And Ive been trying to decide what car I want to replace it before I hit the dealers. I was originally sticking to either a used 02 Altima (too expensive) 0r a used Infinty G20 (almost too similiar to my old Sentra).

I had a deep dark secret about my love for the Accord coupe and I actually started researching them before I made myself sick to my stomach--I just cant drive a HonDUH!!!

Then I remembered about the Solara--same body style but less common. Ive learned a little about the differences in this car and the TRD model is really catching my intrest....

I dont plan on going all out modding my next car-I want something that will look good right from the dealer-like the TRD model..

My Question is How much should I focus on the TRD model and how limited are they?? Should I just settle for a regular model and then have the TRD kit installed??

Basically TELL ME ABOUT THE TRD......THANKS ( yeah its pretty long.)

Well actually the TRD model that you speak of was modded outside of the factory. Flipside909 can elaborate on this more but its called a "port installed option." Depending on where you are located, there are a few major locations where toyotas distributed from, and some will actually make "special editions" of the cars.

From what I have seen, there are a few different variations to the TRD Solara from the dealer. One had the TRD body kit and rims while the other had the body kit, rims, supercharger, and TRD exhaust.

Most of us on the forum bought the regular solara and have added the TRD mods if we wanted. I personally have the TRD body kit, Rims, and supercharger but those were items I purchased separately. There is no advantage to getting the TRD package unless you can get a great price on it. Don't limit yourself to just the TRD solara, because its very easy to make a regular one the TRD.

Hope this helped :D

AHHHHH yes just what I needed--a little insight --thanks alot. I thought it was like a special edition model or something.... I went on ebay and autotrader and only found like two and they were priced pretty high...

hmmmm-I guess I could just buy the kit seperately but this accident just killed all my enthusiasm for mods--I mean I know Im still going to have to do the basics I/H/E...and ofcourse a drop..

I just would really like to get the car with the cosmetic portion taken care of UKNOW....

If you have registered make sure that you login and have this box checked. Log me on automatically each visit

Its not a big deal at all to add the TRD kit or wheels and it really does improve the look of the car.

As you mentioned, a drop will really help

I'm assuming I/H/E is intake/headers/exhaust?
The only headers currently made for the solara are pretty expensive. They are from JP Performance and are $1600, but they do include a high flow ypipe and high flow cat

Clean Sentra...I really like your Skyline front bumper. :D

To answer your question about the "TRD" model...it's simple. The TRD package is simply a 7 piece polyurethane kit, springs/struts, exhaust, and 17" wheels (Each of these parts are made in order of list by Molly Designs, Eibach/Bilstein, Borla, and TSW Revo respectively).

Basically all Solaras start off stock from the factory...and the pieces TRD USA offers for sale are aftermarket upgrades. There are only 35 special edition TRD Solara models that were specifically sold through Southern California dealers as finished TRD Solara packages. These are the 25th Anniversary 1999 Long Beach Grand Prix Edition TRD Solaras. There are only 35 of them made...all in Silverstream opalescent, 5spd Manual SE V6...all the Stage 3 TRD parts and have special LBGP badging in the interior. Other packages that were sold TRD at the dealer level were the dealer itself added the options for dealer markup/profit. Yes you can buy these pieces TRD pieces from your local authorized TRD distributor located in most Toyota dealer parts counters. As for the Molly Designs kit...it has been discontinued through Toyota parts sales...and can only be ordered new through Molly Designs.

P.S. Do not use ALL CAPS in your future posts.

Good Luck!

Thanks...that front bumper was my favorite part of the whole car....

hmmm....so basically Im not going to exactly just come up on a TRD model sitting at a dealer huh :-?

alright then well I know about the TRD distributor in the dealerships -my bot got a Corolla. Well then I guess I should just focus on getting a good price and low mileage for now...

No specific color has really caught my eye yet...oh and yeah I know about the caps thing but I was trying to express my anger--Ive never had so much trouble registering on a forum B4..... :o

No problem. Your assumption is right on coming up to a TRD Solara at a dealer. It's unlikely you will see them sitting at any dealer as a package brand new now that the 04 is about to roll out.

our cars are fairly hard to find stuff for all around. however there has been a higher interest in the solaras than i had thought there was. suprisingly when i hunt around for stuff, i can find quite a bit of things that are interesting to apply to our cars. (s/c, smaller pulleys, Apexi Safc, Injen tech, GReddy, and all mighty JIC-Magic. but of course every little thing will cost a pretty penny along the way. i lost track on how much i spent....
