Does anyone know much about Toyota's new 3.3 v6? I know It's based on the 3.0 v6 and the bore is bigger, same stroke.
I wonder if that's all they did is increased the bore. I'm happy to see the 240tq at only 3600rpm. With this good torque curve and 225hp and 5speed tranny the 2004 Solara should have impressive acceleration sa long as the car will come in at about the same curb weight.

It has VVT-i, something the 1mz-fe Solaras didn't get... although the ES300, Avalon, and Gen 5 Camry had...

I think you can get more info on the engine if you get some brochures of other cars that have it... currently the 04 Sienna, and the RX-330 (I think that's all that they've released w/ it so far...)
1GR-FE ftw!

Yes, and of course other improvements with valvetrain timing, plenum and header design as well as newer electronics. As for the 5spd automatic...expect about or a little faster the same times you see with the current ES300.

the current ES300 is slooooow, i cant wait till they incorporate the 3.3 liter into that. with 225 hp and most importantly, 240lb of torque at a very low 3,600 RPM, i am expecting this car to post a 0-60 in about 7 seconds flat, and a mid 15 second ¼ mile time. the new 5-speed auto will help a lot also, because it will be geared for better launches and to make all that torque more useful. remember, the new Accord has 240 hp and only 217 torque, and 5-speed auto, and one of the mags test that car at 6.6 seconds to sixty. i have a feeling that this solara is gonna be a little faster than we all think, as long as they keep the curb weight down of course!

If that was the case, why didn't it improve the numbers for the 2002 and 2003 ES300 with the new 5spd auto? The curb weight was on par from 2001 to 2002 and very little changed besides the new tranny. I mean yeah it used the same VVT-i 1MZ-FE w/210 hp...and it actually made it slower by about .2 seconds with the 5spd auto.
