Engine issue

Engine issue

Postby jalen » Sat Dec 23, 2006 11:24 am

I'm looking at a 99 Solara with 90000 miles on it.

All are fine, the only problem I found is that when I take it to the highway and hit 80 MPH, no matter how hard I try to accelerate, the car just don't accelerate. I felt the car will never reach 100 MPH.

What can be the problem? Would it cost me a lot to get this issue fixed?

PS. I love this Solara but I am worried about its engine.

Thanks

To add more:

The engine check light is on when I test drive the car. And the dealer said it is a O2 sensor issue and he will replace that later.

Is it a v6? If its a 4 cylinder then yes it will be slow on the highway. I didnt think an 02 sensor would make the car to much slower than normal. I know a bad knock sensor makes your car very slow!

Thanks,

Yes, it is a V6 3.0L engine. I thought it should be a powerful machine and could easily goes to 100-120 MPH

So how much would it cost for replacing the knock sensor?

well doesn't the check engine light restrict the power on the engine?
so whatever is causing the check engine light is causing the low power feeling

It depends what causes the check engine light. I know the o2 wouldnt make the car that slow to cause the car not to reach 100. Knock sensors dont really go out on N/A cars but mine did and it felt so slow it wasnt funny.

Did they tell you the OBDII error code? If it's P0325 or P0330 then it has a bad knock sensor(s). The sensors are about $150/each but very... very... very painfull to replace since they are underneath the intake assembly.

Thank you guys for the posts.

I haven't taken the car to inspection so right now don't know the code.

I will do that later and post result here.

Welcome to SolaraGuy. Hope it's all under dealer warranty somehow (unless you mean "I'm looking at" in a different way). It is a relatively fast car, but I do recommend taking it easy on public roads/freeways; I've hit 137 in my days, but I look back on it and think that it's not right and I rarely even let my car go above 90. If you do have the need for speed, go to a track.
