Tire mounting price...

Tire mounting price...

Postby LatinDragonXJC » Thu Jan 25, 2007 5:21 pm

I've read some of you order your tires from Tirerack.com/DiscountTires/ etc... I just did the same, now my tires are here, and want them mounted. How much do you usually pay to mount all 4 tires? So far the tire shops I've contacted have been trying to stick me with crazy prices because I have my OWN tires instead of buying from them.

I just went to Discount Tire and bought insurance on the tires, which protects against road hazard and gave me lifetime balancing and rotating, and they mounted them for free.

Everywhere I called they quoted me over a 100 bucks :o ....I wanted to check here to see what's the average, since its been such a long time since I've gotten this done. I should of went with Discount tire, Tire Rack was cheaper, but the free mounting would of made a big difference.

Did you guys also change the valve stems when you replaced your tires?

in Philly here many local shops do a very well job mounting and balancing tire at $10 per tire, and $2 for tire disposal fee.

That sounds like the price if you buy the tires with them........That's always the kicker, they'll overcharge you if you didn't buy the tires with them.

As with most car services, the price varies greatly and its worth calling around.

Try some chain somes such as costco, walmart, pep boys, etc

The thing is that they get the tires cheaper than you do, so the amount they have to charge to put them on doesnt add up to much when you buy them there! I work at a tire shop, and we have to charge 25 over the tire price to include the time spent, valves and weights; as a wholesale dealer, we get tires from tire rack at least $15-20 cheaper than you can each, so it doesnt come to much more... remember to call around first next time!

man i guess i got ripped.
i just paid 100 at napa, but these were for 18 in wheels. it did take them a good hour and a half to do the job though, so i guess at 60-80/hr it seems about right. butler tire wanted 300!!
