Turing stearing wheel = RPM increase?

Turing stearing wheel = RPM increase?

Not sure if its a problem, but was very curious about it.

When i was in Park i moved the stearing wheel to the left, the RPMs went up ~200
Also turned it right, did the same thing.

Is there somthing wrong with my car?
I'm soon to be replacing the valve cover gasket (small leak), drain and filling my transmission fluid a few times, oil change was done a few thousand miles ago (synthitic)...is it time to flush the power stearing?

THANKS!

It's called Power Steering - LOL! ;)

Just like the A/C - it draws power and automatically increases the RPMs to accommodate and not stall the engine under load.

not really sure how often you'll replace it.....but make sure always check that you don't go below the minimum.

No, it's just power compensation... Unless you want it to go UNDER, stall and lurch a good foot or 2 chirping the tires, or unassisted steering (i.e. thrusting the steering wheel HARD) I'm sure you probably don't want either to happen... Take it from a person who has driven a '67 Bug.
