The Old Guy's Solara

Postby Dave D » Fri May 02, 2003 6:03 am

8) Thanks Guys! My ride is not lowered. I was too worried about strut problems as mine had the strut knock problems in the beginning. I was going to get the TRD suspension kit or the Eibach springs and Tokico struts, but my daughter decided she wanted to go to law school. At 49 your priorities kinda shift to things like that. That's also why I don't have the supercharger. The wheels are seventeens (Moda R1's). I hope the airbag's functional. I adapted the JDM airbag to the Solara harness by hardwiring it. I haven't had a chance to test it out yet (hope I don't either)
I ordered my car from the factory Aug. 98 and received it November 98. I got the auto because my wife was all like..I want to drive it. (she ended up with a 2001 SE 4 banger anyway) I originally wanted the 5 speed and sunroof, could've had it too dammit! Anyway, the shifter is from a 2000 Celica. I shortened the stock shifter shaft and retapped the screw holes to mount the knob. I think it looks a lot better than stock. Seats are original, I installed the leather front and back and it was a bitch! I'd hate to do that for a living as my hands hurt for a week after all of those hog rings. The exhause is TRD. Overall I tried to keep Toyota design integrity by using TRD/ Toyota parts or OEM suppliers. I put in a self dimming rearview mirror from the same company that makes em for Toyota. I cost about /3 of what Toyota wanted for it. The E-brake boot is from an SC 300/400.
She's got 93840 miles on her right now. I just had the timing and other belts replaced. I pamper her to the point my wife gets jealous. Sometimes
she'll say " you love your car more than me" and I'm goin...... Hmmmmm

I live in southern Illinois and when I say southern I don't mean Peoria  I'm down towards the southern tip of the state. About 250 miles south of Chicago. about 100 miles southeast of St. Louis. Dude, I'm in the boonies :D But if your down south e-mail me. I'm usually around. The only time I make it up to Chicago is on business and I usually fly.

i used to see mainly 40+ females (some males) driving it...but lately I've been seeing a lot of younger people. Not often, but more than before. I passed a gold convertable in front of my house and i could see the driver looking at me, but i couldn't see what they look like.

although, i was at a red light next to a really, really hot guy in a silver solara (SE or SLE, i couldn't see)...of course that's the notrious story when my car was in body shop and I was sulking down in the driver's seat of my sister's Saturn SL2, trying not to let the guy see me as he was looking into the car at me

I usually see females in 25-35 range.

I'm in your category Dave! I turn 40 in a few months. I really like your interior, you did a great job of keeping it coordinated. I can't do pics of my car right now because I'm getting ready to move back home (no, not my parents house) to Maryland. I will lose my current ISP so hopefully I'll get to it when I get settled.

My car:
99 Solara SLE Red Flame Metallic
TRD Super Charger
TRD Stage-3 Performance Kit (ground effects, struts, springs & wheels)
TRD Exhaust
TRD Front and Rear sway bars
RMM Intake Kit
Window Tint
Clear corners
Debadged
SilverStar Headlights and Fogs

Still have a long way to go. Next up:
JP Performance Headers and Y-Pipe
5.5 or 6.0 psi pulley (haven't decided)
APEXi S-AFC or Split Second (haven't decided)
Plasma Booster
Denso Iridium Plugs IK22
Magnecor KV85 ignition wires
and who knows, I'm still having fun! At this point, I'm learning from you guys. Keep posting and I'll keep buying. -Joe

So I guess I'm an old guy driving a Solara, but it's the only one like it between here and St. Louis. Maybe farther than that. I see a lot of women driving them down here in southern Illinois. Most modified cars are either local yokels in muscle cars or ricers in Civics & Eclipses.

Do they make Black Pearl Emblems for the SLE? If so where do I get um' and how much?

Fairlite,
I got my black pearl emblems from USA Toyota parts. e-mail at parts@usatoyotaparts.com. I'm not sure if they have them for the SLE. They should. I paid $130 for mine, but that was two years ago.
