checking timing....corolla and solara

Hi all: title says it all.more concerned about the corolla though. it's a 93.i kinda remember timing the older cars but need to check the 93. is their a certain way it has to be done? i have a timing light but looking at the engine stats confuses me.well anyway,somebody please run me through the process.not sure if i have to disconnect anything . i see the marks and i know i'll have to move the distributer.it has to be pretty simple...thanks all............joezee
