Cruise Control Malfunction? Searched...

Cruise Control Malfunction? Searched...

Postby CamryOnBronze » Thu Mar 22, 2007 6:14 am

As the title says, Ive had my 99 SE V6 5 speed for a week today. Anyway, I was driving it last night and decided to try the cruise control out, but it doesnt seem to work. I had the exact same cruise setup on my camry, so it isnt user error or anything like that. I turn the cruise on and the light comes on, then when I push the lever down to set my speed the cruise will not engage- the car just begins to lose speed.

At first I thought maybe the car had to be in fifth, but I couldnt make it work in fourth or fifth. I read in my haynes manual that the light will blink if there is a malfunction in the system, but it doesnt- everything acts like it should, the cruise just wont engage. Anyone have any ideas for me? I want to make sure it isnt as simple as a fuse or something before I contact the dealer. Thanks for any input and advice!

oh, and yes I was going over 25mph...

first ensure your brake fluid is filled up (for some reason my celica's brake fluid wasn't enough and the "BRAKE" light was brunt out - i didn't know it was low) and hence hte c/control wasn't engaging.

After that, check to make sure the "cruise" come on when you depress teh c/control button.

Then check fuses and other connections.

I know the cruise light comes on, that much I know- thats why i was so surprised to see it didnt work. Ill check the brake fluid tonight, I do remember reading that in a previous thread. Is there a specific fuse that realtes to the cruise control? Ill look it up when I get home from class and see what i find, thanks.

I know it has to be in gear  but I wasnt sure if it had to be in fifth or if it would engage in other gears as well. Thanks Milt

could be a brake switch problem or the spiral cable is at fault

my cruise control doesn't work anymore cuz of the remote ignition. the cruise light when i press the button still works though :)
