does this mean it's a goner? all i want to do is run a tape adapter so i can play my palm (or an mp3 player) through my stock set up.

any recommendations on what i could destroy to get whatever is grinding in the tape deck? it's pretty annoying so i just turn up the music so i dont hear it. but that method isn't preferred there are other people i want to talk to in the car.

what double din toyota stereos are compatible with a 1999 solara (with the stupid JBL amp)?

It's probably that old Loverboy tape you're trying to play in the cassette deck! :o LOL!!

When that happened to my WIFE's car awhile back... it was POCKET CHANGE our toddler had deposited in the "SLOT"... :-?

(I used a LONG-NOSED (needle nosed) pliers and "squeeze-to-release"-type tweezers to remove the change... then everything worked fine again.)

I sense an oblique shot at a cherished, iconic, Canadian band of the past. The list of talent that we, your friendly neighbours to the north have sent your way over the years is much too extensive to list here. Suffice to say that many of your top entertainers are of Canadian extraction. To repay you for the insult, we are going to insist that Celine Dion take out US citizenship.
And furthermore, the Solara when first introduced, was initially made in Canda.
Regarding your cassette deck. Hell, I'm 57 and I chucked mine long ago.

Whoa whoa whoa... As a person who's grandfather who is from Quebec and even served in the RCAF in WWII AND a driver of a car that I already knew came from Cambridge, Ontario, you don't need to take everything people say seriously... We're a loose group here that makes sarcastic comments all the time; incidentally it gets out of hands sometimes. Just my $0.02 [CAD].

Ah, Nefarious my dear comrade, perhaps unknown to you, we Canadians are indeed the masters of wit and sarcasm, as we must be coming from a land of perpetual ice and snow. Why just the other day, the weather being too inclement to drive the Solara (-60C), I hitched up the dog team and braved the sub zero conditions to travel the 50 km (30 miles) into Vancouver to pick up my weekly supply of muskoxen meat and whale blubber(which tastes like chicken). On the way back, I encountered a polar bear who ate 1 of my dogs. Fortunately, I still had 7 left to get me home.

blimey!! that must have been a force to reckon with. , for an ardent dog lover like me, it is sad that the polar bear got hungry. anywho, solarafriend, you need to be careful driving those rigs (something i might do this winter). but still, nothing's better that the wind in your face. nes't pas??

on another note,i was reading my manual the other day (for the first time in what seems like a gazzillion years, and i noticed it say something about automatic powertrain reconfiguration, when in towing mode. thereby my curiosity. any of you tried towing something heavy with the solara. and no, am not talking about winches

sorry if it seems like i've hijacked the post, just thought there would be some experianced blokes in here. 8)

^^^ I'M NOT ALONE!

(Opted for the more locally accepted RIBEYE STEAK in cellophane wrapper over the muskoxen - which gives me gas - and chased it with a Killian Red while ruminating over opportunities within this arena to perpetuate yet another busted winker relay-like thread of engineered quality...)

Further, to your point... we always have ACCEPT, and their veritably anthemesque "BALLS TO THE WALL" mantra and SLEEMANS as evidence of your contribution to the all of North America in polycultural earnest... oh wait, in an IRONIC twist of canuck-fate, I recall the LATTER is not allowed to cross the border, and the FORMER may well have served the world contained within your "shores" in the first place...

Celine Dion! HA!

(Only punitive if you give a nugget... 8) )

i spoke to my friend's sister (who drives a 99 camry) and she has the exact same issue. is this something that is widespread? would cleaning the heads help? it seems like more of a mechanical issue.

i went to the store and they said that because i had that JBL amp, i'd have to do a bypass and it'd cost an extra hundred something dollars. too much work and $ for me. id rather spend 50 bucks and get another one with a tape deck that works (or put up with a minor annoyance).
