Engine Miss

Postby Wild Bill » Tue Apr 10, 2007 7:10 pm

Hi everyone, I have a 2001 Solara v6 , twice in the last week the engine started to run rough and almost stalled at idol. Once when I pulled into a gas station after a 3 hour run on I75 and the other time when I slowed down to turn into my driveway. The car was fully warmed up both times.Any advice would be welcome .
I am new to this board and I thank everyone in advance.
Regards Bill

Hi Again, I just purchased this car and I have no service records. It has 130 k miles on the clock. It has a sticker on the timing cover that says the timing belt was serviced at 60k.
Thanks

iac - affecting your idle

if its dirty or malfunctioning, it won't be able to adjust for the slowing down of the engine speed after its heated up

What is an iac and any idea how much it costs to replace?

From what you're saying, that sounds like a vacuum issue.

It only happens when you slow down and steer right? My mother's Ford Windstar does that ALL the time now. It used to only do it once in a blue moon so we didn't pay much mind to it, now it'll do it when you try to turn AND brake at once.

It'll probably be more apparent when you start to brake hard and make a turn.

Get your hoses checked before you actually start replacing anything.

^^^ DING DING DING...thats what popped in my head as the first suspect.
Additionally, i would also:
1. To timing belt/drivebelts + water pump + teermostat
2. Sparks and ignition wires

That should be suffice to keep it running for another 130K miles.
