[HELP] Headlights turn on/off when using turn signals

I recently unplugged the light sensor on my '01 Solara because it was kinda annoying not being able to turn off your lights while the engine is still running. Anyway, while driving to work today, I noticed that the headlights would turn on and off randomly as I used the turn signals.

Upon plugging the sensor back in, the headlights work normally (I didn't througly test this though). Anyone know why this would be happening?

What kind of car do you have?
Which plugs r u talking abt?
There are two plugs, one is for DRL the other one is for Auto On when dark.

I have a '01 Toyota Solara SE.

I unplugged the DRL a while ago with no problems.
Last week, I finally unplugged the light sensor by the windshield on the passenger side. While I'm able to turn off the lights with the engine running, an unseen side effect seems to be the headlight randomly turning on and off while using my turn signals. For example, I use the turn signal and the headlights shut off, then I'll use them again and they will turn back on. I don't know what could be causing this because I never had this problem prior to disconnecting the light sensor.

hahahah, sorry but i can just imagine this happening. when ever you signal the headlights go on and off. sorta like wig waums....

odd problem. i never heard of anything like that

I agree, this is getting very annoying :cry:

...I am about to just take it to the dealer to get it fixed but I'd rather just do it myself to save time and money. Anyone else with any ideas??

i dunno if this helps anything much, but try testing it out by unplugging the turn signals and then flipping the turn signals? possibility they screwed up on your wiring? :roll:

kinda doubt it though since it worked fine with you sensor plugged in

Maybe it's a Toyota DRL fail-safe... it forces you to go to the dealer by doing that?

Perhaps you cut or disconnected the wrong wire?

Well I know I disconnected the correct wires. The DRL plug is a grey plug located inside the engine bay on the passenger side. The light sensor is inside the cabin by the windshield.

I am going to try to connect the DRL back in because I beleive if you disconnect the light sensor, the DRLs also cut off. If this doesn't work, the only other options I have is to plug the light sensor back in or bring it to the dealer to get fixed. :cry:

I still don't know what the problem is with leaving the light the way they were meant to be. I all I can think of is people wanting to creep around with their light off so they can't be seen. The light being wired the way they are is a safety feature for you and others. But hey to each there own.

Well the reason for killing the DRLs are so my headlights last longer, otherwise I wouldn't mind it.

The automatic lights are another story. While they are a GREAT convenience, there isn't an option to 1) turn off the automatic feature and 2) be able to shut off your lights when it gets dark. I find that very annoying....I guess I got spolied with my '87 Cressida where you could turn off the automatic function/lights if you wanted to.

Anyway, back on topic...could there be a reason to this madness that is my problem?
