how much 4 knock sensors?

how much 4 knock sensors?

Postby kondo » Wed Jul 23, 2003 5:46 pm

Both of my kncok sensors have been blown for a while and I have a appointment at my local shop to get them replaced in a couple of weeks. Today I called two differnet toyota dealers to see how much they were one place told me $153.56 each, the other told me $165 each. I also need the wiring harness and that is $32-$34 and I think I need 2. Has anyone else found a place where knock sensors are cheaper? What is the going rate(davpac)?

Thanks

you'd only know if you got an OBD-II reading. you'd only get that OBD-II reading if your check engine light came on.

I just replaced one of mine, and I think it was around $146. The harness was about the same as what you got quoted. Check with Partznet.com, as I think you can buy them cheaper from them. By the way, are you sure that both knock sensors are blown? If so, you would be the first person I've heard of that blew the #1 sensor. Sensor #2 is usually the problem.

I heard of someone splicing the front bank knock sensor wires to both knock sensor inputs at the ECU (so that the front bank knock sensor is the only one the computer gets info from). I guess the thinking behind it is the back bank knock sensor is a lot closer to the supercharger and it has the tendency to want to retard the timing while the front bank doesn't pick up as much of the supercharger noise and keeps the engine running richer. I don't have a repair manual or wiring diagram but the knock sensor wire is probably braided to help shield noise. The guy that did this is running a 5.5 psi pulley and he after he made the modification it was quite noticable.

Which bank is the knock sensor called #1, #2?

OK so the reason I think that I need both knock sensors is that when I took the car to toyota to have it tested the service guy said the code was reading knock sensor bank 2 blown, so he switched the wiring harness and hooked it up to the other knock sensor and then rest the code the CEL light came back on and said that knock sensor bank 2 was still blown even though it was hooked up to the first knock sensor. So the service guy said that I should replace both knock sensors and the wiring harness.

#1 is the front bank, #2 is rear.
