Stock Security System

Stock Security System

For those of you who have upgraded your stock security system, what were the reasons?

Recently, there have been a buttload of car break-ins in my area (figures...stupid college campus area). A few weeks ago, my friend's car got jacked in a matter of 20 minutes, while he stepped into a cafe, and just about half an hour ago, I saw one of my neighbor's car broken into. My girlfriend was completely shocked, b/c I'd been telling her stories...telling her how dangerous our area was, and of course she didn't believe me until she saw first hand.

As for me, you really can't tell I have a system, because all the wires are tucked nicely away behind panels, and I have a stock head unit. I keep the trunk locked with my key and the rear seats locked as well. Hopefully, that'll help slow a thief down.

I am kind of disappointed at the volume of the alarm, though, so I'd like to change that somehow. Where does the alarm sound come from? Is it a loudspeaker? Is there anyway to just change that? so I can hear the alarm and rush outside with a bat or something? I don't think I could hear my alarm from my apartment if it happened to go off.

My friends and I want to just spend all my money on decking someone's car out with like a few thousand watts of subs. We'll advertise, too, with like emblems on the outside, and just drive around our area with the system blaring for a few weeks. Then we'll have the car parked somewhere with like 15 of us waiting around and hidden cameras planted. Then if some idiot or idiots tries to jack out shiznatz, we'll beat his shiznol to a pulp and hang him by his ballz...(I don't know why I started sounding ghetto just then, but I don't remember if we're allowed to use profanity?)

Why do people do that??? Make your own dang money and buy your own stuff...dang!!

The stock alarm honks the horn when a) door, trunk, or hood is opened b) key cylinders are removed c) attempted hot wiring. The "beep" you hear when you lock and unlock your car is a little piezo siren and the "beep" is its only purpose.

The main reason for upgrading is additional features. I got the viper 790XV alarm and it provides two way paging so I know whats going on with the car.

As for your friends car, they didn't need that 30 minutes, all they needed was 30 seconds.

The best way to stop a theif is to just be smart. Be aware that on a college campus if you blast your music people are going to take note of what cars have systems and which ones don't.

If you have the transponder in your key, which hopefully you do, you should be fine for them actually stealing the car. The only way to get around that is to flatbed the car out of there. Usually what they'll do is just break in, silence the alarm and steal the system. The sad part is all together it'll take less than 5 minutes.

kronos98,

just get an aftermarket 2 way paging system. this is the sure fire way to know exactly whether or not your car is safe. the best 2 way out there is the Clifford Matrix. this one will also let you know if you are out of range (meaning you will NOT get the page on the remote if it IS BROKEN INTO). no sense having a 2 way pager/remote if you're out of range.

besides that, range is definitely better than any aftermarket alarm. it'll usually run about 4 to 5 bills though, but it's a good investment.
