i had the trd short shifter installed for several months now...it grinds so much when im not paying attention...and my 4th gear grinds no matter how i shift..i have to rev match it sometimes to not grind my 4th gear...and when i floor my car in 4th gear..the rpm goes all crazy..it revs up normally to like 4000rpm and it stays there for a second although my foot is still on the gas...or sometimes it jumps from 2000-3000rpm but i don't feel the car gaining power at all. is this a problem with clutch not catching or tranny problem due to numerous griding of the gears? please let me know if you have any ideas at all, thanks in advance.

sounds like you are riding out your clutch. it is time for a replacement because it is slipping.

Can someone explain what riding out your clutch means? The gears are too grinded to catch each other or something? (And I dont even know what i just said) Im still learning about the manual transmission, learning how to drive stick now! Thanks

i have a stock clutch..the power output from the engine is too much for the stock clutch to handle..so therefore it cannot catch sometimes. but as for me, i grinded 4th gear so much the gears might of been damaged but i've been told that if my gears are damaged it shouldn't be just in 4th gear, it may affect other gears too...and i pray and hope its not my syncro that is causing this..my car has 27k miles and no warranty :cry:

Normally "riding the clutch" means driving around with your foot on the clutch pedal. This can cause clutch slippage since it is not fully engaged, and then it overheats and gets all the friction material worn off.

Yeah something like that happened to my fathers porsche a couple of guys i met at an autocross said the clutch was "glazed" ,. turns out the clutch was shot and had to get it replaced

Usualy the most slipping you wil get when you clutch starts going is in 1st and 2nd gear when you try to come off the line hard. 2-3grand is usualy right where you get the most slippage though, so the clutch definitely sounds like the problem.
Nascar would be a sport if half the cars were driving the other direction.
