NEW STRUT PROBLEMS

NEW STRUT PROBLEMS

Postby bchguy111 » Wed Oct 29, 2003 11:10 am

Okay, I need advice. I just bought new struts on 10/23/03 for my 99 Solara V6 SE. Well, first off, I've noticed the ride is a little stiffer, which I can live with. However, there is rattling over rough surfaces or uneven pavement. I took it into the shop and they said that both the owner and mechanic drove it seperately and could not hear any rattling. Please advise?

Front or back?

Try to re-tighten all the bolts.

Best advise..have them ride with you...you do the driving, let them do the hearing. I had a similar problem on my celica...all it needed was some tightening....good luck.

It's the same problem I've had....I'm just learning to deal with it...and tell the rice shop to stick the old struts up their @$$. If you want it done right, then wait until it's really cold out, and the area that's rattling is cold, then try tightening....for me in Florida the microtolerances from the heat make a difference. Also, a more permanent option is to have them welded in place...which will take away any rattle.

I have never heard people welding their suspensions in place.

Thanks for all the advise. I did take it back yesterday. The mechanic drove it, the owner drove, and I drove with the owner and we all heard nothing. It doesn't occur on smooth surfaces or really bumpychoppy surfaces, but rather on uneven pavement. The said they retightened/adjusted everything. I just don't know what to do. It never made this rattling noise before.

Sounds like the linkage between the swaybar and the endlink is loose.

can't really tighten it until you jack the car up and jack the brake components to the proper level.

RESOLUTION

Postby bchguy111 » Thu Oct 30, 2003 12:28 pm

I took it back to the shop during my lunch and we were able to locate the problem. I need to replace my Bearing Plates. I'm glad they found out what it was, but I'm not happy about the cost to replace them...lol.
