engine revs when I turn the steering wheel

engine revs when I turn the steering wheel

Postby all_red » Thu Oct 30, 2003 1:09 am

I only noticed that after installing Injen intake two weeks ago. When I start the car and slightly turn the steering wheel I hear that sound coming from engine bay. Ignored it at first but then I got concerned so this morning I pop up the hood and start the car and the sound was coming from the air filter, so it has to do with induction. Got into the car and saw the RPM moving up whenever I turn the steering wheel even thought the car is parked.
Is there any explanation for that?

sure there is... just like any other power assisted equipment, it draws power from the engine. once you move the steering wheel, it tells the power steering mechanism to steer. the ECU notices this operation and has the engine rev up 100rpm to keep the balance idle.

you dont notice this when you are in movement because the engine is past idle and does not require any more revs since the motor is running quicker than needed to keep that balance.
